A Sonic Eco-System of Self-Organising Musical Agents

چکیده
We present a population of autonomous agents that exist within a sonic eco-system derived from real-time analysis of live audio. In this system, entitled Coming Together: Shoals, agents search for food consisting of CataRT unit analyses, which, when found, are consumed through granulation. Individual agents are initialised with random synthesis parameters, but communicate these parameters to agents in local neighborhoods. Agents form social networks, and converge their parameters within these networks, thereby creating unified grain streams. Separate gestures thus emerge through the selforganisation of the population..

Quantitative comparisons into content-based music recognition with the self organising map
With so much modern music being so widely available both in electronic form and in more traditional physical formats, a great opportunity exists for the development of a general-purpose recognition and music classification system. We describe an ongoing investigation into the subject of musical recognition purely by the sonic content from a standard recording.
متن کاملMusical Style Identification Using Self-Organising Maps
In this paper the capability of using self-organising neural maps (SOM) as music style classifiers from symbolic specifications of musical fragments is studied. From MIDI file sources, the monophonic melody track is extracted and cut into fragments of equal length. From these sequences, melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic numerical descriptors are computed and presented to the SOM. Their performanc...
متن کاملSelf-organising Applications Using Lightweight Agents
Self-organisation in nature is responsible for many complex and persistent phenomena. This suggests that self-organisation may be useful in the creation of complex applications. Multiagent systems use multiple agents to execute complex activities, and thus may be a basis for self-organising applications. In this paper we describe applications using self-organisation based upon the DIET multi-ag...
متن کاملComposing with Swarm Algorithms - Creating interactive audio-visual pieces with flocking behavior
In this paper, methods and concepts for algorithmic musical composition with flocking algorithms are discussed. Taking three pieces from an exhibition as examples, the strategies for building the specific relationships between each swarm-system and its musical results are shown. General considerations about the structures of self-organising systems and their potential for shaping musical dynami...
متن کاملSelf-organizing Bio-inspired Sound Transformation
We present a time domain approach to explore a sound transformation paradigm for musical performance. Given a set of sounds containing a priori desired qualities and a population of agents interacting locally, the method generates both musical form and matter resulting from sonic trajectories. This proposal involves the use of bio-inspired algorithms, which possess intrinsic features of adaptiv...
